Spring 2012 Fashion is a return to feminine styles in a big way. Designers across the board have ditched the military jackets, tomboy jeans and boyfriend sweaters of the past few years and gone full-blown girly with this season’s trends. With the Olympics returning next year there are also some sporty looks mixed in with the feminine bunch, just to mix it up a bit.

Floral Prints, Pastels and Neons

These are the big three color and print choices of the Spring 2012 fashion season. Go ultra feminine with a floral print skirt or dress, either full and floor length or short and fitted. A pastel cardigan or blazer placed on top can perfectly compliment the colors in the floral dress or skirt, if they are also muted. If you prefer bright neons instead, you can mix a neon shirt with flirty tropical floral print pants or a dress to really grab some attention. Happy Friday 13th!

There are many superstitions that are born out of a lack of understanding and intrigue which more than often arose hundreds of years ago, however one such superstition is that associated with Friday 13th, this is in fact quite a modern day superstition with the earliest records only going back as far as the 1860′s.

It is believed that should any of the Fridays in a month fall upon the 13th day bad luck will befall all people, whilst there has never been any true evidence to back this up, the superstition lives onto this day, with it being kept alive through film and the media.

That said it’s another great excuse for a party! So if the month starts on a Sunday then you can start to plan your Friday 13th parties in advance, just have a look at your calendar to see how many occur in the year. In 2012, the next Friday 13th party is in July, so although it might seem a long way off its something to look forward to towards this summer.

So, what’s the best way to go about planning and throwing Friday 13th parties? Firstly you’ll need some fancy dress items, well if you’re into your horror and you should be if you’re planning on throwing this kind of party, then you’ll remember the unstoppable Jason Voorhees whose murderous rampage and impunity to both bullets and reasoning created a horror franchise that has spawned a series of twelve slasher films to date.

The character of Jason Voorhees is synonymous with an ice hockey mask that he wears to cover his mutilated face and you could use this as starting point for a theme for your Friday 13th parties, perhaps you could do a murder mystery party with the everyone dressed as Jason, but only one is the ‘real’ Jason and the real killer. Alternatively you could theme your Friday 13th party around bad luck and set up some practical jokes using themed props to pull them off.

Sadly in 2012, we have already spent two of our three Friday 13th, but there is one more coming; this is, as previously mentioned, in July so you have plenty of time to come up with other ideas and themes based on bad luck, superstition and all the other crazy ideas that are linked to this infamous date. This does, however, afford you plenty of time to think about what you want to do for your Friday 13th parties this year, choosing the theme is important but so are the costumes and props that bring it to life.

Never fear, because finding the right costumes and props to make your Friday 13th parties go off with a bang couldn’t be easier, just jump on to the internet and do a quick search for Friday 13th, you’ll come face to face with Jason Voorhees himself and this will help you to search further for the right outfits, masks, props and make up from the range of sites available…..Good luck, or should I say bad luck!!

So tempt fate all the way. Make your guests pass under a ladder to get into the party, keep a black cat about the place, make sure there are 13 guests including the hosts and open a few umbrellas about the place. I’d also make sure there are new shoes on the table, you could pick up an old mirror and mark cracks on it with a white candle, put up a picture of one magpie and place horseshoes either up or down depending upon your preference. Peacock feathers and black thorn are both bad luck. On the table you should cross the knives and leave a trail of spilled salt.

All this will ensure your party is the luckiest ever.

Web Site Marketing With the Help of a Professional Headshot

Like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words and your headshot on your Web site can either capture the essence of what your market desires or not. An online business should have a professional picture on their Web site that conveys their confidence and success in their business and attracts new clients.

Not only can you use the headshot for your Web site, it is excellent tool to have for use in trade magazines and other media and a valuable asset to add to your marketing budget regularly. Yes regularly keep this photo updated.

Don’t deceive your clients by putting up a photo 10 years younger than you are or 50 lbs lighter than what you actually weigh. You may one day meet them and feel like a fool! Be confident in what you look like and that confidence will shine through to your clients. Why? If you ever meet a colleague or client, first, they won’t recognize you and then secondly, when they do, they will feel cheated by you if you don’t look like what they expected. I recently attended a Virtual Assistant conference and there were many people I couldn’t indentify by their Web site pictures. There were also a few who I knew right away and could go up and introduce myself to easily. Guess who I choose to outsource to in future business dealings?

Your headshot should look like you!

Headshots don’t have to be expensive either. Your local department stores (Sears, Wal-Mart, etc) sometimes have great low sitting fee packages to choose from. If you do choose to hire a professional photographer your picture will be even better since they know exact poses and tips that work for business headshots. Don’t forget to make sure that you are given all rights from any photographer to your pictures to use in any way you wish. Have them also put on CD-Rom in high resolution .jpg format and not in .gif format which is used for vector images (cartoons)!

A few tips for a professional headshot for your Web page:

1. Don’t go for the overly glamorized shot as this will detract from your professional stance. Being too sexy or for that matter too nerdy will not embrace your business like qualities.

2. Avoid dangly earrings, chunky collar jewelry, hairpieces, hats, etc. Keep it simple yet professional. If you regularly wear your eyeglasses, then include them in your picture else leave them out too as they can distract the viewer.

3. Dress professionally in modern (not the time for your goth dress ladies) office attire suited to the corporate world. Also leave the housecoat or sweats at home. Avoid patterned or white and black clothing. Pattern clothing distracts the eye and white or black clothing can blend too easily into the backdrop causing the opposite effect.

4. Choose a plain background colour that can easily be edited out in case your Web designer ever wants to add a different colour background to it.

5. Consider headshots poses at all angles looking left, right and center. This way when you place your picture on your Web site it will have you looking interested into the content no matter where you place it. Nothing worse then coming to a Web site and seeing the person looking away at the scroll bar outside of their Web site instead of focused onto the content to entice the reader to read their copy.

6. While you are there and if your budget permits, get some bonus full standing poses looking at all angles. You never know when you may use it on the Web to help promote your business online.

Your headshot will visually attract your clients to funnel through your Web site and read more. Make sure you pose with confidence so your business strengths shine forth to entice new clients.

Most children are well aware of their likes and dislikes and surprisingly most are very well aware of the latest fashion and trends in the market. Kids from the age of four onwards start having strong likes and dislikes and sometimes to convince them otherwise can be difficult. So, a good idea is to keep yourself updated on all fashion trends so you and your child are in sync.
Here are a few tips to help dress up your child:

Understand your kid’s personality
It is important to understand your child’s personality and choose clothes that make him or her comfortable. Comfort should be the primary concern for any child and then should come fashion and style. It is no use asking a shy child to wear bright and bold prints which will make him the centre of attention. While we all want this for our child, it is not the best thing to do at this point. Kids need to come into their own in their own time. A confident and comfortable child will be able to carry of the latest trends without any problem, so your kid’s personality should be kept in mind.

Listen to your child
Kids today know what they want and don’t want, so listening to them will help make the decisions much easier and quicker. Of course, please listen, but that does not mean follow; if you think something is inappropriate, go ahead and say it. There are a variety of brands which cater to children’s wear and fashion accessories for children to help them wear there style.

Preferably take your child along for shopping
Avoid shopping alone for your kids; take them along with you whenever you can, as this not only assures you that they will like what you buy for them, but they will also get a chance to try them on for size and fit.

You don’t have to buy clothes that are expensive, as that is not a standard for quality. Fair priced garments don’t mean they are of a poorer quality. As your child keeps growing, it is not feasible to keep buying new clothes all the time, so in such cases, inexpensive but good quality clothing is a good idea.

Jazz up the outfit with cool accessories
Why dress your child in a boring and drab outfit? Or has your child worn the same outfit too many times? Then a cool way of jazzing it up and making it look different is by adding accessories like belts, jewellery, scarves, suspenders, etc.

Make sure footwear is comfortable
Many times, in an effort to look stylish and cool, kids want to wear uncomfortable shoes, like very high heels. This is not advisable for young kids, as such footwear is not meant for them.

Get the right size for your child
Sizes are measured by the age at which your child is, but a better way to do this would be by height of the child, as every child varies from another at different ages. Measure chest size and length as well and also note that for girls, clothes are generally a bit more fitted, so the fitting needs to be done carefully.
